So it isn't really feeling like summer yet because of the changeable weather, but I don't care. I am still looking forward to July/August sunshine, and I decided to cut up some old jeans and style them for when it does (fingers crossed) start to get hot. But, knowing Ireland, this fantasy of ''summer'' is often far-fetched and I will need a warmer option. So one of the DIY's is for sunny days, and the other is for slightly colder ones. And here they are!
DIY #1: For the sunny days: Patterned shorts
Step 1: Your going to need to get an old pair of jeans, and cut them up with a fabric scissors about three inches longer than your desired length. Then just roll up the ends so there are no frays.
Step 2: Choose any pattern (I've gone for a floral purple one) and cut it into a long strip that is a few inches thick. Next you are just going to tuck it into the rolled up ends. I hope the picture below explains what I am trying to say!
Step 3: Next, just sew the rolled-up end and the pattern to the shorts. I like to use thread that matches the patterned fabric. Then, if your fabric isn't long enough to go the whole way around the shorts, get another strip and repeat to the back.
Step 4: Now it's time to curl the patterned fabric around the hem of the shorts, and stitch it there. Next, just repeat this on the other leg, and your shorts should resemble something like this! I like making my own shorts, because no one can ever tell you that they have the same ones as you. Plus, it's a lot cheaper too!
DIY #2: For the slightly colder days - Cropped Ripped Jeans
Step 1: Roll up the ends of some old jeans and see if you like the length of them in the mirror. When your happy with the cropped length, just stitch it into place. These are cropped just above the ankle.
Step 2: Next, cut some holes somewhere just below the knee. Pull at the hole so it frays. If the holes look too big, stitch the sides back together. You can pattern the ends of the jeans by using the same technique as the shorts, that would look pretty cool.
This DIY is a lot easier than the first one, and they like this when they are finished. I really love these and I literally wore them around the house for the rest of the day I made them.
i LOVE your blog it's so interesting!
